To lose weight, eat what you want to eat. Listen to your body and give it what it wants – no matter what the “better choice” is.
Tune into your body and tune out your mind.
The next time you’re hungry, eat exactly what appeals to you – and eat it only when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full.
This is the straightest path towards your natural weight.
When you’re hungry, ask yourself what for? What sounds good right now?
When you answer that question, it’s easy to feel like you’re wrong. Society has told you so many different things about what you should eat that it’s easy to lose trust in yourself.
“Eat low fat. Eat high fat. Eat more in the morning and less at night. Eat all throughout the day. Try one big meal and fast after. Drink lemon water. But drink it right when you wake up otherwise you’re doing it wrong.”
All of this chatter has drowned out your body’s natural wisdom. This is a crisis because your body’s wisdom is the only thing that will carry you safely to your natural weight and keep you there.
To achieve your natural weight, you need to tune into your body’s wisdom and trust it. You need to relearn how to trust yourself.
You cannot be your natural weight and constantly second guess your body’s desires. These are two opposite thought camps, and they cannot coexist.
Eat exactly what appeals to you, and stop when you’re full. And when you do this only when you’re hungry and always stop when you’re full, you will achieve your natural weight.
Now, I know that there are a lot of people who will try to argue against me on this. They often sound like this:
“Really? I can eat anything I want? What if I really want pizza? That’s unhealthy. How can eating pizza possibly help me lose weight?”
And to this person I would say,
Because when you want pizza and you let yourself have pizza, you can be normal around food. You can eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full and feel good after. And best of all: lose weight.
If you don’t let yourself have the pizza and choose something with your mind instead of your body – say you have a salad – then although you’re full, your body still wants pizza. And so the bingeing begins.
Suddenly, you find yourself grazing the kitchen because you’re still searching for that “thing” to fill you up. That “thing” was pizza, but you didn’t let yourself have it. So you overeat a bunch of other “healthier” things, and you’re left overstuffed and unhealthy.
But if you had just started with the pizza and stopped eating when you were full, you would’ve walked away happy and content. There would be no grazing or overeating because you trusted yourself and gave your body what it wanted.
It is imperative to listen to your body and give yourself permission to have the things you want – even if they’re unhealthy.
The truth is that your body knows what’s good for you. While you may occasionally crave a pizza, you’ll also realize that you crave kale salads too.
Your body has so much wisdom. You don’t need to amass a bunch of knowledge to make healthy eating choices. You just need to rebuild trust with yourself and honor your body’s natural wisdom.
Eat what you want – eat it when you’re hungry, and stop when you’re full – and you will achieve your natural weight.
